Two big rigs collided on the 60 Freeway in Diamond bar Friday morning, leaving wrecks that were anticipated to back up the road until 9 a.m.

A big rig driver received serious but not life-threatening injuries in the crash, which CHP officials said was caused when a big rig stalled on the road. The second slammed into the back of the first.

Traffic was backed up for miles just east of Grand Avenue on the freeway’s eastbound side for the start of the morning commute. The wrecked trucks were removed by 7 a.m., and freeway was completely reopened an hour later.

The collision was reported just before 1:30 a.m., CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said.

Urban Search and Rescue Task Force was requested to assist with rescuing a person reported trapped after the crash, Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Michael Pittman said.

A LACFD spokesman said 42-year-old man was being airlifted to a trauma center. Both drivers were injured, CHP officers said.

A Sig Alert was issued for all lanes of the eastbound 60 freeway just after 1:30 a.m.; the HOV reopened just before 2 a.m., Villalobos said. All other lanes would remain closed until 9 a.m.
